Every year I try to go on a trip for my birthday to recharge and recenter myself. This year I decided to head down south to New Orleans to enjoy some good music, great food and an awesome weekend with friends.
Running all over a city to take in as many of the various restaurants, museums and festivals is one of my favorite things to do and New Orleans never disappoints with allowing me to wander to my heart's content.
Between a cooking class to learn how to make authentic New Orleans' staples of dirty rice and gumbo, visiting a popular art studio of a local artist and participating in the New Orleans tradition of the neighborhood second line parade, I felt fully immersed in the culture of this vibrant city.
Of course since New Orleans is known for the amazing food options and restaurants, I had to eat as much as my elastic waistbands would allow. With great food literally on every corner (and gas station!), I never feel like my stomach is big enough to sample all the amazing restaurants that tempt me with the smells wafting from their kitchens daily. I personally tried to deplete the oyster population by eating the local staple of charbroiled oysters several times a day lol. Even the food served from the local casual dining locales are worthy of praise.
Overall, New Orleans is one of my top domestic locations to visit. The food, the locals and the energy in this city is unmatched anywhere in the country. If you haven't been to experience it for yourself, you need to hop a flight to this coastal city and fall in love as much as I have.
